On October 29 2019, AERC held their annual business meeting in Washington, DC. In addition to the annual meeting, the organization also held a networking event to bring together program officers from several government agencies and mid- to early-career faculty and graduate students. Attendees met to discuss funding opportunities relevant to ecosystem sciences. Amongst those present were representatives from the National Science Foundation, the National Aeronautics & Space Administration, the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration, the US Department of Energy, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Homeland Security and the USDA-National Institute of Food & Agriculture.
Program officers presented for about half an hour each on possible upcoming initiatives in the field of ecosystem sciences at their organizations, as well as answered questions on the proposal process and how to write and develop a successful grant application. Over 30 individuals attended the event, more than a dozen of whom were program officers or agency representatives. After the presentations and Q&A sessions, attendees got a chance to discuss their specific research with one another one-on-one. |
